Hey guys! I am starting college this coming fall and I came up with some tips to stay healthy and avoid the famous “freshman fifteen.” If you are in or going to college and want to stay healthy, keep reading!
First: Water is your best friend
Water makes your metabolism work faster and keeps you feeling full. Now, this may be an obvious one but I also learned a couple other reasons drinking water is healthy. Water actually helps remove waste from your body.. ya know.. in the southern region… AND it is the base of your saliva and the enzymes in your saliva help break down your food which is an important part of digestion. Now maybe you already knew those things but hopefully some of you are just as shocked and fascinated as I was. *Cough cough, nerd alert*
Although this post is about staying healthy, it’s also about college and with college comes stress acne. So i decided to point out that water is also really good for your skin and helps you maintain a “as smooth as a baby bottom” face.
Since you’re gonna be up and about a lot in college i’d suggest getting a water bottle and get a cute one if you need a little motivation to drink some more H20!

If you leave close to your college, walk to class! It keeps you in better shape but it also saves gas money and is better for the environment. Don’t forget your water bottle (;
Smoothies are your new coffee
If you’re anything like me, coffee is your breakfast. I just don’t have an appetite early in the morning and coffee keeps me satisfied until lunchtime. Smoothies are healthy unless you add ice cream, which is really yummy…. OKAY so maybe being hungry while writing this post wasn’t the best idea.. oopes! Back on topic, say no to ice-cream in your smoothie! Add some kale to your smoothies to get more health benefits and if you don’t go overboard, you won’t even taste it!
Avoid constantly eating out and snacking on your favorite junk foods by meal prepping for your week! If any of you want an example of what to food prep or how to food prep, leave a comment letting me know so I can create a meal prep post for you guys!
10 minute youtube video workouts
The biggest excuses for not working out are, “Im too busy” or “I can’t find time to go to the gym, are you crazy?!?” Well ladies, you no longer have an excuse because everyone can find 10 minutes in the morning, at night, or in the middle of the day to squeeze in a short at home workout!
Try to find interval workouts, these are really effective and since you are only putting in 10 minutes of work, honey, your gonna want it to be effective!

If you live in a dorm or an apartment, always take the stairs! Not every dorm has an elevator but if yours does, AVOID IT! Yes, taking the stairs isn’t going to ensure you stay healthy but a lot of little things like this go a long way. Hopefully none of you end up on the 15th floor, that wouldn’t be fun…
No more late night snacks
Okay, let’s be honest here. Eating at night is like the absolutely most enjoyable time to eat, am I right? Unfortunately eating before bed doesn’t allow your metabolism to break down the food properly because your metabolism slows while you sleep and your body will store the food as fat! I guess all the best things in life come with a price. (Feel free to give in every once in a while to avoid going insane).
Get your beauty sleep
The more sleep-deprived you are, the higher your levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which increases your appetite. I don’t know about you guys but what my stomach says, goes. If my stomach is growling at me for food, I’m gonna feed the beast. So keep your beast in its cage by getting a good nights sleep, every night!
Okay guys, those are the 8 tips to stay healthy in college. I hope these all help you guys out and I hope they help me out when I go to college too. It’ll be a challenge we can face together!
